What is cyclone BiparJoy and history of cyclones in Pakistan



According to Pakistan meteorological department alert dated 15 june 2023 at 11.04 pm, extremely severe cyclonic storm (BIPARJOY) is present over East-central Arabian sea  started landfalling along India - Pakistan border atound latitude 23.0°N and longitude 78.3°E at a distance of 150 km from Keti Bander, 200 km from Thatta and 245 km from Karachi. The land falling process will get complete by midnight. 

 Wind-dust and thunderstorm is expected in the country in coming days. As per Sindh provicial disastaer management authority 64000 people have been shifted from most threatened coastal areas۔ Biparjoy slightly lose his strength but still extremely severe and heading towards Ú©Û’ coastal areas of Pakistan, Keti Bandar, Badin, Thatta,Karachi, Sjawal.


Cyclone Biparjoy threatening India and Pakistan apiece. Indian city Gujrat and Pakistani coastal areas Karachi, Thahta and Ormara. According to officials, on 15 June 2022 cyclone biporjoy will strike Indian city Gujrat and Pakistani coastal area Ketibandar.

Cyclone Biparjoy is nearing towards Pakistani coastal areas. While addressing to a presser CM Murad Shah said that Army has been called in to help evacuate residents of coastal areas Thatta, Badin, Sajawal and Karachi .

Meteorological department of Pakistan predicted of heavy rainfall due the effects of Biparjoy cyclone in Badin, Thatta, Sajawal, Karachi and Tharparkar. CM Murad Shah was afraid of cloud burst type situation due these rains in Sindh coastal areas.Fishermen and local people have been asked not to visit sea due to cyclone Biparjoy nearing these areas gradually. 

Effects of Biparjoy on Pakistani Areas

Cyclone biporjoy will pass 250 km from Karachi but it will effect Karachi in the shape heavy rains, thunderstorm and gusty winds.
It will strike Keti Bandar on 15 June 2023.
All residential areas around have been evacuated by Sindh government with help of Army. 
According to met Office cyclone biporjoy is taking same route and same intensity as was the route and intensity of 1999 cyclone
 

How Cyclones are created

yclones are created due to rise in sea temperature. Environmental experts are of the opinion that Arabian sea temperature has risen to 1.5 degree celsius due to climate change which resulted in intense Cyclones with longer period.

How Biparjoy gets its name?

To prevent from confusion a name is chosen by a body or panel of a cyclone for uniformity and issuing of warnings.
Under the decree of World meteorological Organisation, there are six Regional Specialized 

Biparjoy is bangali language word which means calamity. 

History of Cyclones in Pakistan 

1999 Cyclone 


On 20 May 1999 similar kind of cyclone ( Biparjoy)was hit with Pakistani coastal areas Thahta, Thatparker and Badin which brought huge destruction in the shape if killing of 400 people eroding of road infrastructure. 

Cyclone Anil 

On 1 October 2004,first properly named cyclone Anil brewed up in Arabian sea and made landfalling with Indian Gujrat,  brought heavy rainfall and gusty winds. Resultantly 9 people were killed in Karachi.
