PTI and Govt Talks for Elections Ended in Smoke



At the end of 2nd round of talks between PTI and PDM led govt members on Saturday 28th Apr, many were optimistic about the positive outcome but later on incidents like late night raid on PTI president Pervez Elahi's residence in Lahore for his arrest by anti corruption department and statement of Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif in his home town Sialkot cast aspersions on the positive outcome of the negotiations.



PTI is demanding to dissolve the NA before 14 May while PDM led govt is sticking to his stance of holding elections on single day after presenting the budget. There are bleak chances of successful end of talks as many analysts are of the view that both parties especially govt is holding talks to appease the Supreme Court. 







Imran has announced rallies on Labour Day, 1 May 2023, in Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar with the solagan " Save Constitution,  Save Pakistan " seemingly to pressurise the govt for holding early elections of Punjab Assembly.


While addressing   "Save Constitution,  Save Pakistan " rally on Labour Day in Lahore,  PTI chairman Imran Khan demanded to dissolve NA before 14 May for elections and he further added that we will approach Supreme Court for Punjab and KPK Assembly elections.


On 2 May 2023 at 2200 hours third round of talks started at Senate committee room.


PTI leader and member of negotiating team has cleared taht no parley will be held after that what so ever the result of negotiations come out.


Third Round of Talks

On 2 May 2023 after the lapse of three days, third round of negotiations between PTI and Govt teams led by Shah Mehmood Quteshi and Finance Minister Ishaqe Dar respectively held at Senate committee room.

Both parties reached at consensus to hold provincial and national assembly elections on single day but consensus on date of elections could not be reached.

PTI Shah Mehmood Qureshi announced to approach Supreme Court for holding elections in Punjab on 14 May as negotiations yielded no results.
