2023, migrants boat tragedy sent shock waves across the length and breadth of Pakistan as hundreds of Pakistanis are reportedly dead and missing boarding the ill-fated fishing trawler in the mideterrarian sea.
Poverty stricken Pakistanis opt to go to European countries for better livings since long by illegal means putting their lives on risk but recent incident of boat tragedy capsized near Greek coast carrying hundreds of Pakistanis exposed the failure of those who are at the helm of affairs.
The question pop up here that why did these migrants, especially Pakistanis, choose to leave their country in the first place? Pakistan, like many other poor nations especially African countries , faces a host of challenges that compel its citizens to seek better livings for their loved ones in wealthier countries. Economic hardships, including limited or no employment opportunities, lack of adequate infrastructure, and income disparities, often urge the youngsters to move to developed nations. Additionally, political unstable atmosphere and social unrest, also contribute to leave their home country in search of safety and stability elsewhere.
People of central Punjab, mostly Gujrat , Gujranwala, Sialkot, Mandi Bhauddin and Azad Jammu & Kashmir are hub of illegal migration. Human traffickers lure their clients by showing them dreams of better livings by demanding millions of rupees. Poor people pay the required money by selling their hard earned possessions to fullfill their dreams but often knowing well that the route they opting is full of dangers.
Government has taken stern action against human traffickers and many have been put behind the bars.
The question is whether there is an end to such heart rending incidents. Efforts can be made to address the root causes that drive migration, it is unlikely that the desire for a better life will ever completely dissipate. As long as economic disparities, political instability, and social challenges persist in certain regions, people will continue to seek opportunities elsewhere. It is essential, therefore, to focus on long-term solutions that address these underlying issues and create an environment conducive to growth and prosperity.
