Abdullah Shafique plays epic knock putting Pakistan in commanding position in Colombo test

Pakistan has heaped up 397 runs lead against Sri Lanka in 2nd test match at Colombo's Singhalese Sports Club. 

Green shirts are galloping towards series clean sweep courtesy to fabulous double hundred of Abdullah Shafique being the 11th Pakistani opener to score double hundred and 7th opener batsman to score double hundred away from home ground as well as century from Salman Ali Agha. 


Abdullah Shafique 



Abdullah Shafique scored first double hundred in test cricket who is just 23 years of age. 

Javed Miandad, a legend Pakistani batsman, was the youngest Pakistani to score double hundred in 1976.


Salman Ali Agha 



Salman Ali Agha also scored a century after solid and free flowing innings on 121 balls after hitting 1 six and 10 fours. 

Salman Agha scored his second hundred and first one away from home.
Salman Ali Agha possesses boatload of talent being an excellent batsman as well as a useful off spinner.


Pakistan batting-day 3



Pakistan started 3rd day's play from 178/2 with Babar Azam 28 and Abdullah Shafique 87 runs not out. 

Babar Azam 


Babar Azam was the first batsman to lose his wicket leg before wicket on the bowling of Prabath Jayasuria. It was Prabath Jayasuria's second wicket.

Babar Azam added only 11 scores to his previous day's score of 28 and got lbw out on 39 runs. Skipper Babar Azam performance in recent series remained dismal as he never scored a fifty or more in recent series against Sri Lanka. 

Saud Shakil 


Saud Shakil, a double century maker in previous test played a responsible innings and scored 57 runs on 110 and Asitha Fernando claimed his wicket by lbw.

Saud Shakil developed a partnership of 109 runs with Abdullah Shafique on 196 balls, a second century partnership as earlier Abdullah Shafique made century partnership with Shan Masood 108 runs on 117 balls quicker than second one.


Sarfraz Ahmad 


Wicket keeper batsman Sarfraz Ahmad started his innings with confident that he had to retired hurt due to short pitch delivery of Asitha Fernando.  He scored 14 runs from 22 balls.


Abdullah Shafique 


Abdullah Shafique was the last batsman out on 3rd day on the bowling of Prabath Jayasuria and caught by Madushanka after scoring an epic knock of 201 on 326 balls.

He also made 124 runs valuable partnership with Agha Salman.



Salman Ali Agha


Salman Ali Agha scored a free flowing innings of 132 runs on just 148 balls and not out on the crease.
It is his second hundred and first on foriegn tours. While Rizwan Ahmad scored 37 runs from 61 balls who came to play in place of Sarfraz Ahmad. 


Sri Lankan bowling 



Asitha Fernando took 3 wickets while Prabath Jayasuria claimed 2 wickets while Madushanka, R. Mendis and Dananjaya remained wicket less.



2nd day's play was marred by rain and only 10 overs were bowled on that day.


When 3rd day's play was ended, Pakistan was 563/5 with huge lead of 397 runs with two set batsmen Agha Salman and Rizwan ahmad not out on the crease while two day's play left.


SSC Colombo 


Singhalese Sports Club Colombo's wicket started turning in last moments of 3rd day's play and favours spinners on fourth and fifth day of the match. 

Sri Lankan team is under paramount pressure of huge lead as well as Pakistani bowlers are in great form and Pakistan is all set to clean sweep the 2 matches test series. 


How many test matches Pakistan played on SSC ground Colombo?

Pakistan and Sri Lanka have played 6 test matches at Singhalese Sports Club Colombo's ground of which Sri Lanka and Pakistan had one test match each.

However Sri Lankan team have strong record on this ground.  Islanders played 43 matches on this ground of 20 test matches were won by Sri Lanka, lost 9 and 14 matches remained undecided. 



Who scored highest runs on Colombo's ground?




Earlier Muhammad Hafiz had hold the record of highest score 196 runs, by any visiting team player at Colombo's ground. 


But now it is Abdullah Shafique who hold the record of highest scorer by any visiting player 201 runs at Colombo's ground.
